Launched officially in ist November 1997 by the Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan Malaysia Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato' Dr Abu Bakar bin Suleiman. It is one of the comunity project by Rotary Club of Bangsar with the Ministry of Health and Malaysia Society of Transplantation.

The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) was registered 1969, and commenced the provision of dialysis treatment in 1993 with the opening of Hang Lekiu Dialysis Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Since then we have developed 16 centres located throughout Malaysia- 6 centres in the Klang Valley and one each in Ipoh, Setiawan, Kuala Terengganu, Taiping, Kuching, Johor Bahru, Bagan Serai, Penang and 2 centres in Alor Setar. With 16 dialysis centres established nationwide, servicing over 660 kidney failure patients from all races and age group, N.K.F is the largest organisation related to this medical sector.

-N.K.F is a non-profit charitable organisation, dedicated to help all Malaysians who are suffering from end stage renal failure (kidney failure) and cannot afford to get dialysis treatment from private hospital because of the high cost.

THE GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION ARE :

  -To develop and co-ordinate a voluntary movement to work towards the improved care and treatment of

  -those suffering from kidney diseases.

  -To promote improved methods and services in research, prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of  kidney diseases

  -To promote the organ donation and transplantation of kidneys, and

  -To promote the general well-being of those suffering from kidney diseases.

IN PURSUIT OF THE ABOVE OBJECTIVES, THE FOUNDATION ENGAGES IN THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES:

  -Establish and operate programs, including dialysis centres, which render services to persons suffering from kidney diseases

  -Co-operate / co-ordinate/liaise with government and non-government agencies in services for persons suffering from kidney diseases

  -Encourage and promote research in the prevention, diagnosis, causes and treatment of kidney diseases

  -Collect, combine and disseminate information regarding causes, prevention, research programs and available aids to combat kidney diseases

  -Carry on a vigorous public education program within this field including campaign of kidney donations

  -Campaign for, receive and hold funds, gifts, requests and endowments, and apply proceeds there of  to any of the purposes herein described.
